Xiaoqin Zou receives NSF CAREER award
Aug. 25, 2010
Dr. Xiaoqin Zou has received a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program Award from the National Science Foundation in the amount of $734,016 for 5 years. This Award Program is part of an award program of the National Science Foundation that represents it's most prestigious awards to support the early career-development activities of teacher-scholars who most effectively integrate research and education within the context of the mission of their organization.
Dr. Zou's CAREER award focuses on how biological macromolecules interact and dock with one another. Dr. Zou will develop a new rigorously derived model for protein-protein interactions based on the physical principles. This analysis will provide valuable insights into how proteins bind one another and the information is useful for understanding cell signal transduction, assembly of large protein structures and for rational design of new therapeutics.
Dr. Xiaoqin Zou is a Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center Investigator and a tenure track Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, Department of Biochemistry and member of the Informatics Institute at the University of Missouri-Columbia. As a part of her CAREER award, Dr. Zou will develop a true interdisciplinary environment in her laboratory at the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center and in her class for excellence in research and education, particularly for underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Zou will also actively participate in scientific educations to local community and to Missouri high school students.
